2008 Paul Hobbs "Ulises Valdez Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1065809 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Even better is the 2008 Pinot Noir Ulises Valdez, which is made from a suitcase clone smuggled in from Vosne-Romanee and the Calera clone, which is believed to have come from the most famous vineyard of that appellation. Forest floor/mossy notes intermixed with fresh porcini mushrooms, black raspberries and black cherries emerge from this medium to full-bodied, luscious Pinot Noir. (RP) (2/2011)

92 points Wine Spectator

Aromas of ripe baked blackberry and cherry pie are soft, fleshy and full-bodied, picking up spice, floral and lavender scents that are focused and complex. (JL) (6/2010)

90 points Vinous

Deep, bright ruby. Deeper in pitch than the Hyde, offering dark berry and cherry-cola aromas and a hint of licorice. Weighty blueberry and boysenberry flavors are firmed by a zesty mineral spine and gain sweetness with air. Pliant, juicy and penetrating on the finish, with the dark fruit and cola notes repeating. (ST) (5/2010)
