2007 Rayne-Vigneau, Sauternes (375ml)

SKU #1064251 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The Rayne-Vigneau 2007 seems initially unsettled by the performance of the 2006, on first acquaintance more closed and taciturn. Leaving it to one side, over the following 15 minutes it flowers and offers very attractive scents of white peach, apricot and lemon curd. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity. It is a little compact and unresponsive toward the finish, but there is certainly impressive focus. It is just a Sauternes wine that needs to say more, so I suggest another two or three years in the cellar because there is immense potential. (NM) Inner quote mark (6/2013)

Outer quote mark A wine that is bright with the freshest orange and lemon flavors, followed by liquid honey and fine apricots. It is perhaps light, but it is certainly delicious. (RV) Inner quote mark (6/2010)

Outer quote mark There's loads of sliced green apple and pineapple on the nose, with spices. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with toasted almond and botrytis spice character, followed by a cooked apple and citrus finish. Dense and beautiful. (JS) Inner quote mark (3/2010)

Outer quote mark Palish yellow-gold color. Subdued but pure aromas of white peach and flowers. Juicy, fresh and nicely balanced; in a rather gentle style despite possessing lively acidity. Not a thick style, and youthfully unevolved today, but finishes with very good length and sneaky flavor intensity. (ST) Inner quote mark (7/2008)

Outer quote mark The 2007 Rayne-Vigneau is a beautiful bottle of wine in the making. The gorgeous bouquet jumps from the glass in a classy blend of toasted coconut, pineapple, orange, honeycomb, lovely soil tones and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and complex, with a fine core, crisp acids and outstanding length and grip on the very elegant and palate-staining finish. A really lovely rendition of Rayne-Vigneau, the 2007 should drink well with four or five years of bottle age and keep beautifully for at least the next three decades. Lovely wine. 91+ Inner quote mark (1/2010)

K&L Notes

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A wine that is bright with the freshest orange and lemon flavors, followed by liquid honey and fine apricots. It is perhaps light, but certainly delicious." (06/10) 92 points Wine Spectator: "There's loads of sliced green apple and pineapple on the nose, with spices. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with toasted almond and botrytis spice character, followed by a cooked apple and citrus finish. Dense and beautiful. Best after 2013." (03/10) 91-93 points Robert Parker: "This has a rounded nose of apple-blossom, honey, peach and a touch of elderflower. Good definition although it could do with more vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied, good acidity with a certain delicacy and sophistication to it. Lively and zesty towards the finish. Crisp, minerally towards the finish that is streamlined and economical. Good length. Drink 2010-2025. Tasted April 2008." (04/08) And 89-92 points Stephen Tanzer: "Palish yellow-gold color. Subdued but pure aromas of white peach and flowers. Juicy, fresh and nicely balanced; in a rather gentle style despite possessing lively acidity. Not a thick style, and youthfully unevolved today, but finishes with very good length and sneaky flavor intensity." (Jul/Aug '08)
