2001 Flowers "Camp Meeting Ridge" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

SKU #1063866 90 points Burghound

Outer quote mark A nose of cool red cherry aromas and this possesses perhaps the best fruit and oak marriage of any wine in the flight. The middle weight flavors are punchy and sweet with fine detail and a lovely, mouth coating finish. There is not great complexity here but this is an elegant wine of obvious appeal. Inner quote mark (7/2004)

K&L Notes

This enterprise with well-placed Sonoma Coast vineyards (next to the Marcassin Vineyard and Martinelli's Blue Slide Vineyard) produces top grade coastal Pinots. "A unique combination of abundant sunshine and cooling fog rolling in and out of the vineyard creates an ideal growing environment for Pinot Noir. Soils in the vineyard are diverse with at least six marine and volcanic soil types present. The topsoil is shallow only 6" to 18" deep over metamorphic rock that allows for exceptional drainage. Years of study went into selecting proper root stocks and clonal selections for the initial planting and we continue to experiment and fine-tune today. The vines of Camp Meeting Ridge struggle for water and nutrients which limits vine vigor, reduces yield, and produces small berries with great concentration of flavors and aromas.
