Good deep red. Pungent aromas of redcurrant, sandalwood incense and resiny eucalyptus. Then suave and creamy in the mouth, with complex flavors of redcurrant, mint and chocolate. Obviously minty, but this ripe, supple cabernet has the courage of its herbal convictions. This reminded me of a maturing Bordeaux. Finishes with smooth tannins and lingering note of chocolate. Grace Family Vineyards makes "some of the best wine in the world," according to NorCal Wine's publisher Fred Swan: "Many people can attest to that and we will too. The wine is so sought after and made in such low volumes that at this moment there are about 4,500 people on a waiting list just to get onto the allocation list." In a 2009 tasting, Mr. swan concluded that the 2005 is "an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon with a long finish. You can drink it now, but it will last a long time in the cellar and develop additional complexity." (NorCal Wine, 2/2009)
