Aecht Schlenkerla "Oak Smoke" Rauchbier, Germany 500 ml (Previously $6.49)

SKU #1062690

This is a specialty "smoked" beer from Germany that follows a century-old recipe. The Schlenkerla Brewery malts are dried by wood fire—in this case oak—which adds unbelievably deep character (wine lovers will recognize its unique character). Amber-colored, this seasonally available (typically Christmas) beer uses Hallertau aromatic hops for intense and inviting aromas.

Aecht Schlenkerla is one of the only producers making a smoked Doppelbock, and this beer is worth trying for any fan of Doppelbock or Rauchbier. The black forest ham-like smokiness doesn't overpower the beer, but it is quite apparent. Besides smoke, this full-bodied beer has notes of caramel, orchard fruit, and spices. The caramel and smoke qualities pair wonderfully together. A fantastic beer to pair with American BBQ, especially brisket or tri-tip.

So, here it goes. I am German. Sso that would mean I should love German beer, right? The Aecht Schlenkerla "Oak Smoke" from Rauchbier was a little much for me at first. That is until I had it with its proper food: something highly seasoned and fatty, especially pork.
