2007 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "SLV" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1062162 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The opaque ruby/purple-hued 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. Vineyard Estate exhibits medium to full body along with more concentration, intensity, depth, ripeness and structure. From a 36.5-acre estate vineyard contiguous to the Fay site, this offering may be the finest S.L.V. cuvee made in several decades. It needs another 1-3 years of bottle age, but should drink well for 15+. (RP) Inner quote mark (12/2010)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Remarkably complex, with an effusively floral nose, well-ripened black fruits, cassis and hints of graphite and Asian black spice. More tannic and tightly wound than the Fay and Cask 23, with a flinty minerality on the nose and finish. Very fine. Enjoyable now, though begs for at least a few more years in bottle. 18/20 points (LM) Inner quote mark (12/2010)

K&L Notes

The 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon from the young Stag’s Leap Vineyard (S.L.V.) stunned the world in 1976 when it bested top-flight Bordeaux and California Cabernet-based wines in the “Judgment of Paris” blind tasting. S.L.V., planted by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars founder Warren Winiarski beginning in 1970, continues today to produce Cabernet Sauvignons that are quintessentially complex and balanced, with vibrant fruit, intense spice, firm structure, food-enhancing natural acidity and the promise of long-term cellaring. The 2007 S.L.V. has the dark fruit tones (blackberry, black plum) that typically come from the vineyard, as well as notes of cassis, bramble, Chinese five-spice, caramel and vanilla. There is an elegant mineral quality on the nose and lingering finish.
