2007 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

SKU #1061080 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Two of the strongest wines ever made at Opus One, the 2007 has terrific black currant fruit, licorice, incense, and subtle smoke, an opulent, even voluptuous mouthfeel, dazzling purity and texture, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel. This is a sensational Opus One, with sweet tannin and impressive precision and depth. It can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years. (RP) Inner quote mark (12/2009)

94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Tight and firm, with a chewy edge to the dried currant, graphite, blackberry and mineral notes. Full-bodied and intense, without being weighty, this is well-structured with a complex, persistent finish. (JL) Inner quote mark (10/2010)

93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark If you like your Opus on the fruit forward side, then this is for you. Plums and raspberries verging on jam, with chocolate covered cherries on the nose. Full bodied, soft, and friendly with caressing tannins and a very fruity finish. Inner quote mark (4/2011)

92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Fresh red-ruby color. Medicinal kirsch and spices on the nose, plus a suggestion of rose. Wonderfully sweet and seamless but given shape and definition by lovely floral lift and firm acidity. There's something old school about this beauty, which has lost some of its baby fat while retaining its primary fruit character. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and a repeating element of dried flowers. Still young but delicious right now. (ST) 92+ Inner quote mark (5/2017)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Composed scarlet with some age at the rim. Lovely edge of stoniness. Very vigorous and rather bordelais in its drive. Though it’s pretty rich in the middle. I don’t think on the palate it would ever be confused with a Pauillac! Great energy. Hint of menthol. 18/20 points. (JR) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

Tasted at the property. From the infamous 2007 growing season in Napa, it is a poster child for a rich, modern vintage and also a fine Opus that highlights the property in the middle of their qualitative rise that took them through the decade. In an ideal drinking window, the 2007 shows plenty of ripeness, a nuanced secondary earthiness, and lush fruit. It is aromatically complex and loaded with dried cherry, good acid, and a layered finish. If you're looking for something that encapsulates 2007 Napa and a bottle that you can open now, this Opus fits that bill.
