2008 L'Aventure "Côte à Côte Estate" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1058332 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Opaque ruby. Very sexy aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, apricot pit, licorice and violet. Wonderfully precise and vibrant, with terrific cut to its creamy flavors of dark berry compote and candied violet. Round and sweet on the back end, finishing with excellent clarity, length and a lingering note of floral pastilles. Asseo called this wine "a bit of a prostitute, but a very nice one." This is full-bodied, with loads of spicy, chocolate and meaty character. A mouthful, but freshness too. Loads going on. Very supple and voluptuous. Ready and long. 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre. Drink now or hold. (10/2011)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

More forward and approachable, the 2008 Cote a Cote offers ample, ripe aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis, spring flowers, pepper and hints of minerality to go with a medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant feel on the palate. Hedonistic, balanced and ready to go, it should still evolve gracefully and have 10-12 years of ultimate longevity. (JD) (7/2014)

K&L Notes

Country:

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
Sub-Region:

California

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
Specific Appellation:

Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
