2007 Haut Bergey, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1056752 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark A truly grassy aroma leads to a fresh, herbaceous and crisp wine. To top its crispness, it also has some weight, wood flavors and a creamy core with a white pear texture. It could benefit from aging, at least three years, to bring out the inherent richness of the wine. *Wine Enthusiast Best of 2009* (RV) Inner quote mark (7/2009)

Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A sleeper of the vintage, this constant over-achiever’s 2007 exhibits notes of plum sauce, soy, spice box, and unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco. This round, generous sleeper of the vintage shows good density, medium to full body, and a silky, smooth style. (RP) Inner quote mark (4/2010)

Int'l Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Wild if subdued aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate, licorice, game and leather. Juicy and intense but a bit youthfully bound-up, with fresh acidity perking up the concentrated, chewy mid-palate. A bit extractive but plenty rich for the year, and not green. The wine's building tannins call for a few years of patience. (ST) Inner quote mark (7/2010)

I am stunned. This wine took my breath away and I was in love at the cork pop. Hello gorgeous you with dark opulent blackberries, voluptuous tannins and unforgettable personality. It has the power and the body of 2010 that you expect but is so elegantly harmonious. Harmony in fruit, body, balance and the finish. Go ahead, try it and be in love!

Both of the Pessac wines were a hit (the other was the 2005 Haut Vigneau). The Haut-Bergey’s nose was dominated by blackberry and cedar, but on the palate these elements were backed by tobacco, dried herbs and spice, all around a supple mouthfeel. The blackberry finish also showed more herbal notes.
