2002 Perrier-Jouët "Fleur de Champagne Belle Epoque" Brut Champagne

SKU #1054917 95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Beautiful oily concentration, but also an elusive style that not everyone will like at the moment. Meaty tones mixed with petroleum, citrus and meringue. Leave for a few years and enjoy the upcoming harmony. I thought it was magical. (RJ) Inner quote mark (9/2014)

94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Hints of burnt sugar and toffee accent this bright Champagne, along with notes of apple pie, bread dough, cream and candied lemon peel. There's a fine balance between the wine's finesse and its lively character, with a long, smoke-tinged finish. Better than previously reviewed. Drink now through 2024. 2,000 cases imported. 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark An intense wine that reveals its floral and rich character slowly. It is showing only a slight sign of maturity, and more noticeable are its flavors of crisp apple and citrus, along with bright, tight acidity. (RV) Inner quote mark (12/2012)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Pale gold. Ripe citrus and orchard fruit aromas are lifted by chalky minerals and white flowers. On the palate, pliant orange and pear flavors are underscored by a gingery nuance and a hint of bitter lemon zest. Fleshes out on the sappy finish, which hangs on with strong smoky persistence. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Belle Epoque is a striking Champagne endowed with considerable power and richness in its exuberant fruit. The wine blossoms on the plate with tons of richness and a broad, expansive voice to the fruit that is quite beautiful. A long, creamy finish layered with tropical fruit rounds things out nicely. This is easily one of the most memorable Champagnes I have tasted from Perrier-Jouet in some time. (AG) Inner quote mark (10/2011)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Disgorged 31 October 2012. RS 8 g/l. From Jouët's UK stock. Tasted blind. Pale straw. Very steady bead. Tight, dense, tight-knit almost chalky nose. And then a little bit of nuttiness. Perrier Jouët? 18/20 points. (JR) Inner quote mark (10/2016)
