2006 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1051858 95 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Even in this vintage, which was not so great, Beaulieu has succeeded with this dramatic, classic Cabernet Sauvignon. It's absolutely delicious, offering a range of blackberry, black currant and cedar flavors, complexed with notes of chocolate, anise, sweet smoky leather and Asian spices. Beautiful now for its velvety softness, but has the inherent structure to last for a long time. Inner quote mark (12/2009)

Outer quote mark The summer was relatively cool in 2006, though there were heat spikes in July. The vintage yielded very concentrated wines that needed time to become expressive. The colour here is very deep and unevolved, and the nose is still dense and inexpressive, with some hints of brooding black fruits and tobacco. Rich and opulent, the palate is very concentrated, still tannic and even a bit tarry. The acidity is modest, and it seems rather extracted, chewy and grippy, lacking in optimal freshness. Imposing and long. (SB) Inner quote mark (2/2019)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark While the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour is the strongest wine made at Beaulieu in many years, it is eclipsed by the 2007. The 2006 Georges de Latour exhibits a dense inky/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of graphite, licorice, charcoal, creme de cassis, and sweet cherries. (RP) 91+ Inner quote mark (12/2009)

91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Healthy dark red with ruby tones; little sign of development. Lower-toned on the nose than the 2007 version, offers aromas of plum, mocha, licorice, coffee and loam. Concentrated, very ripe and broad on the palate, offering a nice blend of sweet and savory elements. (ST) Inner quote mark (4/2019)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark Georges de Latour defines finesse in Napa Valley Cabernet with its crushed velvet texture and blue-black richness of fruit. In this vintage, it's more about texture than freshness, the lasting impression its smooth, creamy feel. Its tannin will plump up grilled chopped sirloin. Inner quote mark (4/2010)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Lush and mouthfilling, with velvety tannins enveloping a concentrated core of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Gently herbaceous, long in the finish, and showing no heat despite its labelled 15.1% alcohol. (LM) 18/20 points Inner quote mark (8/2009)
