Wine & Spirits
A classic Alexander Valley Cabernet, this is dark and cedary, and as smooth as velvet. The tannins last, built on black cherry-skin flavor and earthy, root-vegetable notes. With time, that black cherry flavor should become more prominent, balancing the wine's earthy complexities.

Decanter
This vintage made everyone happy with its high quality and large crop - an infrequent combination. The growing season was long and cool, with perfect slow ripening. This wine is a bit rustic, with an edge of tannin in the finish, and dark notes of earth and a savoury character. The aromas stand out: cherry, liquorice, earth and dried herbs. (EM)

Vinous
Good deep red-ruby. Dark berries, black cherry and licorice on the nose, with a less exaggerated oak element despite the fact that this was aged in 95% new American barrels. Not particularly sweet, but the mid-palate offers better grip and lift than the 2004, with laid-back flavors of currant, plum and tobacco leaf. Finishes with substantial, slightly dry tannins and good persistence. (ST)

Wine Enthusiast
Bone dry, this wine shows the soft, dusty tannins and herbal flavors that classically mark Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It has an elegant structure housing flavors of blackberries, currants, sage, tobacco and cedar, and should develop in the bottle over the next 6–8 years.
