2007 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape

SKU #1048956 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A beautiful wine that's just now hitting maturity, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape from Jean-Paul Daumen is still ruby colored to the rim and offers up a classic bouquet of black raspberries, black licorice, fruit cake, garrigue and roasted meats. Full-bodied and concentrated, yet with a seamless, impeccably balanced profile, it's drinking beautifully today but has another 10-15 years of overall longevity. (JD) Inner quote mark (2/2017)

94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Very ripe, but focused and pure, with a gorgeous core of crushed plum, pastis and raspberry ganache notes stitched together with long, velvety tannins. Spice, fruitcake and melted licorice notes echo through the superlong finish. (JM) Inner quote mark (11/2009)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Very, very dark crimson. Savoury. Real vibrancy and savour. Still lots of tannin. 17.5/20 points (JR) Inner quote mark (11/2009)

K&L Notes

97 points, Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "The nose is incredibly pure with raspberry, black cherries, a hint of fig and a touch of cooked meats that should evolve after bottling. Very fresh with good definition. The palate is incredibly smooth and downright sexy on the entry, utterly harmonious with blackberries, touches of cassis and a touch of damson. This is unreservedly a thrilling Chateauneuf-du-Pape, opulent, incredibly focused." (01/2009)

This wine is perfectly balanced with firm tannins on the entry, great earthy flavors with hints of smoked meats. The wine closes at the back which lets you know that it's not going to show itself for another decade. Be patient, it will be spectacular.
