2005 Climens, Barsac (375ml)

SKU #1047727 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Climens just soars from the glass with layers of clear honey, marmalade, nectarine and minerals all beautifully carved. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh, vibrant honeyed fruit that builds and builds in the mouth in tandem with a killer line of acidity. Even though it is a convincing, great Climens, you also have the impression that it is only just beginning to show what it is capable of. Bérénice Lurton and her team excelled in this vintage and it comes strongly recommended. (NM) (6/2015)

Toffee, dried lemon rind and tropical fruit on the nose. Full-bodied and very sweet, with a dense palate of candied fruit and a long, sweet finish. Very concentrated. The botrytis spice creeps up on the finish. (JS) (3/2008)

94 points Connoisseurs Guide

There was a time when the best of Barsac would not achieve the heavily concentrated character found in wines from the heart of Sauternes, but, as this wine so handsomely shows, such is no longer the case. Its intensely honeyed, golden apple and ripe peach aromas are nicely complemented by nutty notes of botrytis, and the wine's thick, rich flavors follow perfectly in suit. Still, this wine is too young and direct to be more than a sugary cameo of what it will become over time, and we very much urge you to let it age into the layered perfection that surely lies ahead. (5/2008)

Good full golden-yellow. Musky, very fresh aromas of crystallized citrus peel, minerals and toasted bread. The palate offers incredible sappy concentration and a saline aspect, not to mention a penetrating quality rare for this fruit-driven year. In fact, this begins almost light, then builds inexorably toward the back, finishing with a tactile impression of extract and an extraordinary sweetness that almost reminded me of the Suduiraut that I tasted just before it. Should go on for decades. (ST) 94+ (7/2008)

93 points Wine & Spirits

The deep color implies how richly draped this wine is in botrytis; its exotic scents and complex flavors bear the stamp as well. Honey, more honey and a little hazelnut in the end. Voluptuous now, this wine's complexity will gain prominence with age. (10/2008)

92 points Wine Enthusiast

Intensely rich, very perfumed wine, full of apples and honey flavors. There is also fresh fruit, but the richness dominates, showing some dry botrytis flavors to finish. (RV) (6/2008)

Decanter

Opulent apricot nose. Plump and robust, with rich mandarin fruit. A long, spicy finish. (SB) 19/20 points (7/2012)

Jancis Robinson

Deep orangey gold. Smells of crème pâtissière. So rich! Lots of excitement and sheer weight and volume. Good energy on the finish. Marzipan notes. Unctuous. (JR) 17.5/20 points (2/2017)
