2007 Lucien Crochet Sancerre

SKU #1047524

88 Points Stephen Tanzer's IWC: "Green-tinged yellow. Bright lime and grapefruit scents are slow to unfold, eventually picking up floral and herbal nuances. Dry and precise, with nervy citrus and underripe apple flavors underscored by talc and white pepper. Showing a taut, slightly austere side now. Finishes brisk and refreshingly tangy." Josh Raynolds The Crochet domaine evolved through the marriage of the Crochet and Picard families, with the latter family having commenced its vineyard holdings in the Sancerre district as early as 1765. It was the great-grandfather of Lucien Crochet who first installed that part of the family in the region and it was in 1934 that the first bottling of wines occurred at the domaine. The domaine now is under the direction of Lucien Crochet and his son, Gilles. Their single vineyard Sancerres are some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc-based whites made, and this, their straight Sancerre culled from a variety of top sites in the zone, shows their masterly touch with the grape. Tight, bright, unequivocally lean and steely, it is what all Sancerre should be but sadly is not!
