Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The deep garnet colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard gives up a beautiful savory/meatiness with a core of blackcurrant cordial, red currant jelly, Black Forest cake and chargrill with touches of Indian spices, star anise, cast iron pan and mossy bark with a waft of yeast extract. The palate is full-bodied with a beautiful fine-grained texture and wonderful harmony even at this relatively youthful stage, with loads of layers and a perfumed finish. (LPB)

This is very, very floral with sage, black currants, black berries, and hot stones. Full bodied, with blackberry, black olives, and cashmere like tannins. It finishes broad and is completely captivating. This is starting to come around, but be patient for another two years. Pull the cork in 2012.

Vinous
(15.5% alcohol): Saturated bright red-ruby. Medicinal black cherry, blackberry, cocoa powder, tobacco, menthol and minerals on the remarkably primary nose. Seriously powerful, superconcentrated wine with a tightly coiled spring and a magically light touch. The dark berry and mineral flavors are complicated by a saline element. Conveys an impression of excellent acidity, but Woodbridge notes that the pH here is around 4.0; still, this wine makes the 2004 seem truffley by comparison. Finishes with a suave dusting of tannins and outstanding length. This was made in oak fermenters at Woodbridge's new winery, then aged in his caves. I'd still give it several years in the cellar to resolve its acids and tannins. It may yet merit an even higher score. 95+ (ST)

Wine Spectator
Offers delicious pure, ripe and fleshy Cabernet fruit, delivering layers of currant, wild berry and a hint of raspberry, with mineral, pebble and cedary oak. All of it unfolds gracefully, with a supple, caressing texture. (JL)

K&L Notes
A previous 100-point review by Robert Parker in his 10-year retrospective of the vintage: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan is perfection! It was too easy to deliver the ultimate three-digit score. A sensational nose of pen ink, graphite, forest floor, crème de cassis, a hint of white chocolate, and cedar wood are all present in this majestic, multi-layered wine built like a skyscraper. The freshness is still a component part of this full-bodied, stunningly concentrated wine that is pure Napa purity, power and compelling intensity. This is a great wine, still youthful at age ten, and capable of at least another 20-25 years of evolution." (06/2015)
