2006 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echèzeaux Grand Cru

SKU #1045595 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Drunk in Burgundy from a French source, this bottle of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's 2006 Échézeaux Grand Cru was showing extremely well, opening in the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, spices and rose petals, framed by a deft patina of high-quality new oak. Full-bodied, voluptuous and layered, it's rich and muscular, with lively acids and plenty of powdery tannin. (WK) Inner quote mark (4/2021)

Outer quote mark Just as it was from the very beginning the expressive nose of maturing red and black fruit is markedly floral in character with a plethora of spice and earth nuances. There is good richness to the round and delicious middle weight flavors that possess an attractively textured and punchy finish that delivers good if not truly special depth and length. I very much like the overall sense of balance and about the only nit is a trace of backend warmth. Inner quote mark (4/2015)

Outer quote mark Good full red. Pretty, nuanced aromas of red fruits, flowers and tobacco. Wonderfully tactile and juicy, with terrific acid cut giving grip to the sappy red berry and saline flavors. Finishes with sweet tannins and lovely lingering perfume. This struck me as exuberant and expansive for a grand cru from this year-and that's hardly a complaint. A big success for this cuvee. Outer quote mark Offers fine depth and length, exuding sweet cherry and strawberry flavors, with intensity and better integration of its tannins than the Vosne-Romanée. (JS, Web-2012) Inner quote mark

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark More obviously oak spice at first, a touch of vanilla and sweet strawberry fruit. Firm but infinitely fine tannins, leaving a tangy note on the tip of your tongue. Very focused yet still finely fragrant, and a little peppery. More peppery and tingly on the palate with fragrance to the very back of the palate. Finesse standing to attention. K&L Notes

Lovely, elegant and showing an extremely fine structure. A hint of five-spice and some exotic notes. The wood is not quite integrated at present. Very lovely finish. An extremely pretty wine with great character. Rich mid-palate, fairly plush in character. Very nice! Lots of length, and rather Romanée-Conti like, in a way, but with less power. Very elegant, and shows the stems a bit more as it opens. Very good! (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer)
