This sparkling wine is medium salmon in color, with a fresh strawberry, cherry and tart plum nose. Flavors of strawberry, cranberry, pomegranate and blackberry are sharpened by tart acidity. The bubbles start foamy but settle down toward a finish loaded with sour lime. (FA) (9/2021)
In 1984, Gilbert Gruet of the French Champagne house Gruet & Fils made a bold choice to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vineyards planted high up at 4,300 feet meant cool nights for his "experiment" and a long growing season. In 1987 he finally was able to achieve his first production using the traditional French methode champenoise, and the rest is history.
