Gruet New Mexico Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine

SKU #1045399 Connoisseurs Guide

Starting out with a very clean and carefully composed nose of fresh strawberries, cherries and minerals with gentle background notes of yeast, this immediately inviting Rosé does not disappoint on the palate with very like-minded, lightly champenized flavors that go beyond simple fruit. It is full and foamy with lots of fine, long-lived bubbles, and it is finished with just the right bit of crispness. It has the richness and slight vinous grip to stand up to dishes ranging from poultry to milder pork, but this is a pink sparkler that is entirely enjoyable on its own, and it ranks with the better bargains in bubbles to be had. *Good Value* (12/2017)

Wine & Spirits

A pretty sparkler with an aggressive mousse, this has scents of red cherry and muted flavors of red raspberry. It’s big and round on the palate, with a firm phenolic grip. Chill down for an aperitif. (6/2015)

Wine Enthusiast

Light pink and attractively priced, this has light strawberry aromas and more substantial cherry and strawberry in the mouth. Gruet has done a fine job managing the bubbles in this wine so that it tickles the tongue more than overwhelms it. (12/2006)

K&L Notes

In 1984, Gilbert Gruet of the French Champagne house Gruet & Fils made a bold choice to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir near Albuquerque, New Mexico. High vineyards at 4,300 feet meant cool nights for his experiment and a long growing season. In 1987 he finally was able to achieve his first production using the traditional French methode champenoise, and the rest is history. Sparkling wine from New Mexico, you say? Yep, and it's really good, too! The Gruet family makes champagne in France and fell in love with New Mexico when they were visiting. The result of this love is a classically styled Brut Rose with bright strawberry fruit and toasted bread on the nose. Clean, raspberry fruit on the palate with a dry, crisp finish. Only 5000 cases produced. A wonderful bargain!

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
