Traquair "Jacobite Ale" Scotland (330mL bottle)

SKU #1044989

What is this beautiful creation? Scotch ale brewed with coriander? Who knew it was going to be a match made in heaven? A deep black color with a small ring of head capping it off. Not much to say here (See my review of the Traquair House Ale for my feelings on appearance) What a nose, with a slightly sour note from the coriander used in the brewing process adding dimension to the layers of cocoa-y malt, plum, blueberry and raisin. This is like a scotch blended with a sour. Showing both the rich malty base and a tangy, acidic ribbon from the middle of the tongue to the back of the throat this beer is sort of in a class all of its own. Bright and full of lift with just enough carbonation to cleanse the tongue and keep the palate refreshed. Flavors of dried plum, bitter herbs, licorice, cassis and coriander, DUH! A tremendous effort that I think is a must for fans of malty numbers or sours. I was caught a bit off-guard by this, I didn't really know what to expect from it. But now that I had it I can't really fathom what my beer drinking existence was like without it. This will be drunk often in my house. (Bryan Brick, K&L) Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland, dates back to 1491. As did many estates of the era, Traquair operated a house brewery and when Mary Queen of Scots visited in 1566, Traquair was already brewing a famous strong ale. Traquair Jacobite Ale, first brewed in 1995, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Jacobite Rebellion.
