1991 Palmer, Margaux (1.5L)

SKU #1043683 Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Palmer's 1991 is a noteworthy effort. The deep ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of ripe black fruits and new oak. There is excellent definition, a sweet, creamy, medium to full-bodied texture, noticeable fatness, and a lush, concentrated, rich finish. Inner quote mark (2/1994)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This estate is always very good in a mediocre vintage. Lovely character of vanilla, cherry and berry, firm tannins and a long, silky finish. Drinkable now. Inner quote mark (3/1994)

K&L Notes

This is absolutely terrific with a crown roast rack of pork. This tremendous wine shows all sweet fruit with no hard edges, and the silky finishes goes on for 1.5 minutes! 1991 was an off year? Apparently, not along the river! *1/27/09 -update* "PERFECT WINE !" (Clyde Beffa Jr, K&L Bordeaux Buyer)

At a recent staff dinner this was silky smooth and simply stunning. The plush and velvety texture retains plenty of acidity for freshness and there is nothing awkward, angular or tannic, just creamy, dusty cherry fruit, earthy woodsy scents and a long satin textured body. There are aromas of ceder and leather present but there is nothing at all drying about the elegant finish. This is pure cashmere in a bottle.

One of the greatest wines from the most underrated vintage of the century in Bordeaux.
