Made exclusively for K&L Margarett's Vineyard Chardonnay is going to be a great holiday crowd pleaser. Bright apple and pear notes play nicely with just a touch of toast from seeing a bit of oak. Well balanced in both the palate and the pocket book.

This is a clean style of white with flavors of pear, apple and citrus. This bargain is one of our best selling chardonnays and is perfect to have around for amy inpromptu gathering or to take to BBQs, picnis or casual gatherings.

You won't see me much excited about a domestic Chardonnay. Usually because they are too heavy, sweet, and oaky for me. However there are exceptions, and more often than not it is the unoaked, (or with a more balanced oak treatment), crispy ones that catch my eyes. The Margarett is all about that. Sure it has lots of fruit, and it is juicy, but above all it's balanced and deliciously inexpensive!

Created and bottled by the McNab Vineyard (which once was the Zellerbach Vineyard that was purchased by John Parducci in the late 1980’s) by winemaker Rich Parducci for K&L Wine Merchants, exclusively, the Margaret Vineyard offers a wonderful presentation of Bosc pear-like to Arkansas Black apple-like fruit both in the nose and in the mouth with just a hint of oak and a mild wet-stone mineral undertone. A large amount of the fruit that comprises this lovely, every day drinking Gem is sourced from the cooler coastal regions of Mendocino County, and is the perfect white wine to serve at parties and receptions. As Anderson has told me, “Don’t let the price scare you – this is really good wine, anyway!” This bright, refreshing chardonnay will be one of our house whites for however long it is available. With the holidays fast upon us, there is always the need for that satisfying, dependable and delicious house white to open at the ring of a doorbell to welcome good friends in the spirit of the season. With just a whisper of oak to enliven and spice up the green apple and pear flavors, this wine is an effortless, easy-to-enjoy expression of California Chardonnay. Exclusively bottled for us at a great price, what more could one ask for... a party perhaps?

Additional Information:

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut. In France's Burgundy, Chardonnay is the source of the prized wines of Chablis, Corton-Charlemagne, Mâcon, Meursault and Montrachet. It also the foundation of exceptional Champagne, where it is blended with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier or vinified on its own into Blanc de Blancs. It is also extremely popular in California, and is gaining popularity in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain and South Africa.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
