1994 Moraga Vineyards "Bel Air" Los Angeles County Bordeaux Blend

SKU #1041588 90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Wonderfully complex, with ripe, rich, vibrant flavors and a smooth, supple texture that lets the core of currant, tobacco, cedar and spice flavors glide across the palate. But it's also a strongly oaked style, with lots of up-front smoke and cedar. Forward enough to enjoy now, but should age well. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. (JL) Inner quote mark (5/1998)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon (545 cases) reveals evolved fruitcake, cedary, tobacco, roasted herb, and cassis aromas, as well as rich, concentrated flavors. It is impressively rich, with an herb-tinged, black currant personality, medium to full body, sweet but noticeable tannin, and excellent purity, all framed by toasty new oak. The wine gives every indication of being ready to drink with another 2-3 years of cellaring. It should last for 15-20 years. (RP) Inner quote mark (12/1997)

K&L Notes

According to Robert Parker: "This is one of the more interesting vineyards in California. Nearly a decade ago I walked the vineyard with the proprietor and was surprised by how good the wine was then. Yet I never thought this estate would get to the point where it would be a commercially viable operation. The vineyard sits on some of the most valuable real estate in California - in Bel Air, the wealthy Los Angeles suburb." (12/1995)
