Vivid, juicy wild berry, cranberry and a twinge of earthy, leathery scents give this a hint of Zinfandel. Elegant, intense and vibrant, this doesn't sing of Cabernet. (11/2008)
The truth is, Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the easier varieties to grow as well as make. The old saying, "great Cabernet Sauvignon makes itself," is really true. You've got to start with the grapes though. Orin Swift is blessed to buy Cabernet from a handful of great people who are also great farmers who farm great vineyards: Gary Morisoli - Morisoli Vineyard, Rutherford and Doug Wight - Taplin/Lewelling, St. Helena. The 2005 Mercury Head is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and entirely from these two vineyard sites. It is spectacular and collectible, and it will afford decades of glorious cult Cabernet drinking!
