Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Owned by the famous négociant firm of Dourthe, the 2005 Belgrave is a solid effort from a property that has tremendous upside. This dark ruby/plum-colored wine exhibits classic Médoc notes of tobacco leaf, unsmoked cigars, spice box, blackcurrants and cedar wood. It is medium-bodied, with relatively ripe, soft tannins, and a nice, lush finish. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. (RP) Inner quote mark (6/2015)

Here we have a moderately priced Bordeaux with 17 years of age on it. Those of you who appreciate more traditionally styled Bordeaux will love this. A nose of earth, black olives, plum and blackberry. On the palate, it is now supple with a lightly tannic background. Very dark red fruits dominate with a bit of licorice and bittersweet chocolate. We had this open for two prior to my tasting it, so it does benefit from airing or decanting. Have some of your favorite people over to enjoy this with a nice Petit Filet.

Chateau Belgrave is a classic Haut-Medoc: Plenty of structure from the tannin and acid, which was especially the case in the 2005 vintage. But the 17 years in bottle have worked their magic and this wine has hit the sweet spot! Classic aged claret aromas of cherry, leather, tea leaves and vanilla with bold ripe tannins and a bright finish, all perfectly integrated like only father time can do.

Here is a great property from one of the best vintages of the last 25 years that is hitting middle age in full stride. This starts with lively, lifted aromas of blackberries and slate then zooms right into the substantial middle of mulberry and dark plum fruit. This is a big, smooth wine that shows great precision to the rich flavors and has a long, complex finish.
