2005 Barnett Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1037099 91 points Connoisseurs Guide

*One Star* Led in the nose by lots of concentrated, cherry and plum fruit with nicely fit oak bringing a touch of vanilla bean to the mix, this weighty, well-focused young Cabernet shows a fine sense of overall balance with trim tannins coming on to firm up its finish. If not unduly tough, it is a wine wanting age, and it wins recommendation by virtue of what it will become in a five or six years as much as by what it offers right now. (4/2008)

91 points Wine Spectator

Rich and intense, with a tight focus on supple currant, herb, anise, sage and cedary oak, all folding together on the finish, where the layers of flavors start to unfold and reveal their complexity. (6/2008)

Jancis Robinson

Vivacious, succulent, vine-ripened red/black fruit nose and palate. Really energetic in its acidity and fresh fruitiness. Complexity comes from vanilla, cedar and gentle tar notes. Youthful, grippy tannins. 17.5/20 points. (LM) (6/2008)

K&L Notes

Ink-dark and highly perfumed, this wine is intoxicating from the get-go. Aromas of raspberry, violet and dark chocolate mingle with cedary-spice, giving way to a palate rich in cassis, tobacco and anise. Firm tannins and a baked earth characteristic linger with raspberry flavors on the finish. Still tightly wound, this wine would benefit from a few hours decanting now or some time in your cellar to open up.
