2006 Belle Glos "Taylor Lane Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

SKU #1034799 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Good full red. Nose initially dominated by chocolatey oak, with dark cherry and mocha emerging with aeration. Began a bit dry and ponderous, with dominant brown spices, but time in the glass brought brighter and much juicier flavors of raspberry, bitter cherry and dark chocolate. Ultimately lighter on its feet than the Las Alturas bottling, but the broad, dusty tannins call for food. (5/2008)

Wine Spectator

Earthy, dusty dried berry and wild berry flavors are firm and intense without being heavy or tannic, showing off plum and blueberry notes. (JL) (9/2008)

K&L Notes

Located just six miles from the Pacific Ocean on California's Sonoma Coast, the Taylor Lane Vineyard is often subject to brutal fog and wind, making grape-growing an almost insurmountable feat. To help the fruit ripen, Belle Glos adapted the traditional Italian trellis system to increase the vines' exposure to sun and to allow sheep to graze through the vineyard for weed control without any damage to the vines or fruit. The resulting, slowly ripened pinot noir is balanced and elegant, with plenty of spice, earth and dark fruit flavors.
