2001 Williams Selyem "Vista Verde" San Benito Late Harvest Gewürztraminer (375ml)

SKU #1033656 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Pale green-tinged gold color. High-toned aromas of peach, apricot, clove and cinnamon. Not at all unctuous or thick; in fact a bit tart-edged, with slightly shrill flavors of orange peel and overripe pineapple framed by fresh acidity. This is even sweeter than the 2000 version at 16% residual sugar (it's carrying more alcohol as well), and yet the acids seem harder too, at least today. Additional Recommended California Wines. Inner quote mark (5/2003)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Sweet-and-sour, tangy flavors are racy and tart, the kind of wine that would cut through a lemon meringue pie with its bracing acidity. (JL, Web Only-2006) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

Cult Pinot Noir producer Williams Selyem makes a Pinot from the Vista Verde Vineyard in San benito County, of course--but this unctuous offering of late harvest Gewurz has been offering members of their coveted mailing list a little something on the sweet side for nearly two decades, as well.
