2004 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

SKU #1030577 94 points Wine Enthusiast

As so often, Léoville-Barton stands out for its style and elegance. With fresh fruit and acidity allied to generous tannins, it sums up the character of the 2004 vintage. Very classic in Bordeaux terms: not hugely powerful, but delicious. *Editors' Choice* (RV) (6/2007)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Tasted at the French Embassy in London. At six years of age, the Leoville Barton is developing quite a refined bouquet with brambly red-berried fruits laced with cedar and a touch of sage. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, ripe red fruits, a generous dose of cedar and firm, dry tannins that segue into a dry, aristocratic finish. Conservative, but charming. Drink now-2025. 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright red-ruby. Deep aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, leather, smoke and flowers. Dense but juicy, with lovely finesse and flavor intensity. Notes of mocha, chocolate and leather linger nicely on the lively finish, which features substantial but rather fine tannins. This is excellent. (ST) (5/2007)

91 points Wine Spectator

Currant and dark chocolate, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced. A more delicate and refined style. (JS) (3/2007)

90 points Wine & Spirits

Powerful minerality runs through this wine, wrapping the primary flavors of blueberries into blackness. There's also an herbal edge, the scent of rosemary cutting through the fruit. More extracted and showing more oak than Bartons of times past, this is structured to age two decades from the vintage. (10/2007)

Tons of cassis and chocolate on the nose. Best at Joanne tasting. Amazing as usual--blueberry and blackberry flavors. Fabulous balance--one of the best of the vintage. Power with elegance.
