2003 Miner Family "The Oracle" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

SKU #1027512 93 points Connoisseurs Guide

Outer quote mark *Two Stars* This masterful blend of Bordelaise varietals fixes on very deep and fairly classic Cabernet fruit while finding nuances of herbs, briary spice and just the right measure of complementary oak within its layered and involving mix. Its fraction of Merlot is made manifest by way of its plump and polished palatal feel, and its long, characterful finish is firmed by perfectly integrated tannins. Despite it many immediate charms, the wine promises more and better to come with cellaring. Inner quote mark (4/2007)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Good red-ruby. Currant, black cherry, mint and bitter chocolate on the nose. Sweet, smooth and spicy, with a slight green streak to the flavors of redcurrant, minerals and oak. The strong wood component cuts off the fruit on the rather tannic finish. This is more minerally but comes across as a tad dry compared to the regular Cabernet bottling. (ST) Inner quote mark (5/2006)

K&L Notes

52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc.

This is the wine for you if you are a fan of full-throttle California richness. Spicy French oak dominates the nose, but not far behind is a patch of wild berries and vanilla. More of the same comes in waves on the palate but there is also some milk chocolate and pencil shavings thrown in for good measure. This wine is sure to please and surprisingly drinkable now.
