Connoisseurs Guide
Curranty fruit shares the stage equally with sweet, toasty oak and a touch of tobacco and forest-floor spice in the nose of this opus, but, in the mouth, its fruit becomes a forward and more singularly directing force. Moderately full in body and with a solid, slightly sturdier feel than that shown by many of its mates of the vintage, it is firmed a good dose of integral tannins and shows clear potential for better with time.

This has a lot going on in the bottle with currants, sweet tobacco and berry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins. A bit firm but it's there. Much better than from barrel. (JS)

Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château, the 2002 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 6% Cabernet France matured in 70% new French oak. It is clean and fresh on the nose: blackberry, tobacco and gravel notes emerging nicely from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple blackberry and strawberry fruit, that tincture of tobacco coming through towards the conservative, but fresh finish. The 2002 is maturing in commendable fashion and whilst it will not soar towards the heavens, it should continue to drink well for several years. Drink 2015-2025. (NM)
