Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Gli Angeli from La Gerla is unquestionably one of the finest 2001 Brunello Riservas I tasted. It captures the essence of the vintage in its ripe fruit and finessed, sweet tannins. Notes of dark cherries, raspberries, crushed flowers, minerals and cinnamon all flow from this weighty, creamy-textured Brunello. Its superb balance and harmony make it extremely pleasurable today, but it also appears to have the stuffing to age for another 10-15 years. This superb effort from La Gerla is not to be missed. (AG)

Intense aromas of meat, blackberry and black pepper. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful. Loads of fruit and spices. Phenomenal. Best ever from here.

Dense and concentrated, this is a modern and flavorful Brunello that delivers vinous and fruity aromas such as cherry, plum and even apricot. Lush and meaty with espresso bean, mushroom and exotic spice. Scores sky high on the power meter.

K&L Notes
Five Stars! It is a classically-styled wine with layers of spice and a powerful yet sinuous structure, no angles or harshness just sweet, sheer power. The length of this wine is impressive but it is how all of the muscle and power coil themselves together in the center of the wine that makes such a dramatic statement. This wine has a voice, strong, immediate and clear; it has tremendous range it can hit the high notes in a swirling crescendo of bright fruit aromatics that furiously line up to exit the glass. This wine has power yet does not seem heavy. This wine is absolutely stunning and will last 20-30+ years. (Greg St.Clair, K&L Italian buyer)
