Outer quote mark (blended with 9% Viognier) Deep, bright ruby. Slightly reduced, medicinal nose melds blackberry, smoke and pepper. Sweet, fat and stuffed with fleshy dark berry flavors. Quite lush, suave and seamless but not overly sweet. Finishes with slightly edgy tannins. (ST) Inner quote mark (9/2006)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Dark, intense and beefy, with plush wild berry, earth and mineral flavors that are intense and distinctive, with a dash of herb and cedar. Ends with firm tannins. Inner quote mark (3/2007)

K&L Notes

Such a beautiful nose on this wine, you almost want to jump in the glass! Boysenberry fruit, perfumed violet, cardamom, ginger root, wet clay and white pepper aromas. The palate is full of rich, brambly fruit. This Syrah is full-bodied and vibrant with coated tannins, lively acidity, and lots of black fruit characteristic of the region with its gravel/mineral soils. Aged for eighteen months in air-dried American oak barrels, this fine Syrah is appealing as a young wine, yet has the structure to develop further over the next ten or more years. 91% Syrah and 9% Viognier.
