2004 d'Antiche Terre Fiano di Avellino

SKU #1019330

While d'Antiche Terre, the wine estate, has only been around since 1989, the grapes that it uses for its fantastic line of indigenous wines and the vineyards from which they come, are as old as western history itself. Take, for example, this value-priced Fiano d'Avellino. Avellino is the town, located just east of the Amalfi Coast. Fiano comes from the Latin Vitis Apiana, or grape of the bees, because the fruit was so sweet it was much loved by the local bees (api in Latin). The wine, of course, is stone dry, and without oak or other winemaking manipulations, it shows a purity of apricot fruit along with an intriguing hint of tasted nuts in the finish. Round, full and wonderful with richer fish dishes.
