2002 Haut Bergey Rouge, Pessac-Leognan

SKU #1016806

According to Stephen Tanzer: "Medium ruby-red. Rich, smoky aromas of black raspberry and lead pencil. Dense but high-pitched, with ripe flavors of black cherry, espresso and dark chocolate. Firmly structured but not at all hard. Finishes even and long, with firm acids and solid tannic clout..." (Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 03) Bought by Sylviane Garcin-Cathaird in the 1990s, this estate has undergone a revolution in quality following an extensive renovation and the building of three new chais, as well as improvements in the vineyard. There are 43 acres of producing red grape vines, which have an average age of 28 years and about four acres of white grape vines. The vineyard consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot while 3 hectares are planted with 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon. Grapes are harvested by hand, while the wine-making and ageing processes are carefully controlled by an on-site analysis laboratory. This is an up-can-coming estate for both red and whites Pessac wines, and a fine value producer.
