2000 La Tour Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1007304 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A blend of 52% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the sexy, complex, fragrant 2000 La Tour Haut-Brion is the finest wine made under the ownership of the Dillon family and their brilliant administrator, Jean-Bernard Delmas. The vintage yielded fabulous raw materials, the vineyard is older, and more young vine Merlot is making it into the blend, thus fattening up what was once a herbaceous, more Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine. The dense purple-colored 2000 boasts a gorgeously sweet perfume of plums, black currants, tobacco, and a hint of olives. Sweet, ripe, and medium to full-bodied, with terrific richness, purity, and copious tannin, this is the finest La Tour Haut-Brion since the 1982. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. Outer quote mark Wonderful aromas of tobacco, berry and currants. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and vanilla character. Long and silky on the finish, with ripe tannins. The little brother of La Mission. (JS) Inner quote mark (3/2003)

Outer quote mark Good ruby-red. Nose shows a roasted ripeness: plum, redcurrant, chocolate and tobacco. Sweet, fat and superripe, with complex, expressive flavors of plum, redcurrant, meat, tomato, mocha and tobacco. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and sweet, lingering flavors. Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Wonderfully dark, healthy crimson with well-graded evidence of maturity. Very sturdy and solid and confident and masculine. Definite meatiness on the nose with a dusty edge. Beguiling and sumptuous with some tertiary aromas in evidence. Lovely mellow palate that is pure and dry and very sappy. You could certainly drink this already despite this chateau’s reputation for obduracy. Very complete – not particularly alcoholic with dryness and tannic bite on the finish. Really delicious, impressive wine. A really lovely bottle. Hit of mint – certainly very refreshing. 17.5/20 points (JR) Inner quote mark (5/2009)

Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark From the same stable as Haut-Brion, La Tour Haut-Brion reveals a fruity, almost frivolous character that makes it immediately charming. But there is no question that the soft, rich, black jelly fruits are the mask for a more concentrated, tannic structure. (RV) Inner quote mark (6/2003)
