2000 Poujeaux, Moulis

SKU #1003920 90 points Wine Spectator

A wine with delicious berry, nutmeg and fresh tobacco character, with just a hint of vanilla. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Impressive. Very fine. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2008. (3/2003)

88-90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Deep medium ruby. Black cherry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. Intensely flavored and rather sinewy, with firm acids framing the fruit. Quite backward and firmly tannic, but has the material and structure to age nicely. Finishes with a note of espresso. This chateau has been making consistently strong wine in recent years. (6/2001)

Jancis Robinson

Very dark crimson. Pretty rich and gamey on the nose. Excellent alluring fragrance. Good, lively stuff. Slightly dry on the finish, but pretty succulent fruit on the mid palate - racy and very well balanced. Bought at the Christie's auction of 2000s recently. GV. (11/2008)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A serious red, as one has come to expect from this impeccably run estate, the 2000 Poujeaux exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, a sweet nose of black currants, minerals, and earth, excellent texture, impressive purity, and a long, concentrated, moderately tannic finish. (RP) (4/2003)

K&L Notes

Another of our favorites at K&L. Good upfront fruit with chocolate nuances on the palate. Fine, mid-palate sweetness. This property consistently makes excellent wine for a reasonable price.
