Dark ruby-garnet. Aromas of intense berry and meat follow through to a full body, with big velvety tannins and a long finish. Seems a little closed, but the texture is beautiful. Still a long life ahead of it. (JS, Web Only-2007)
Poggio alle Mura was the winery that Banfi bought and expanded upon when they came to Montalcino in 1978. To honor the historical name of the estate they have made, in this an historical vintage, a single vineyard, unfiltered Brunello of sensational quality. This vineyard has been the site of much clonal research and is outstanding. The sloping vineyards around the castle's southwesterly facing exposure give the wine one of the best vineyards locations at Banfi. This is the winery's first attempt at an unfiltered wine and for the great 1997 vintage it is only fitting that they give homage to the history of the estate.
