1999 d'Arenberg "Ironstone Pressings" GSM McLaren Vale

SKU #1002975

93 points Robert Parker: "The proprietary blend of 70% Grenache (80-year old vines), 25% Shiraz, and 5% Mourvedre, the 1999 The Ironstone Pressings was produced from yields of .5 tons per acre. It is a fabulously serious, concentrated effort with a dense ruby/purple color, great intensity, and a sweet perfume of black cherry liqueur intermixed with blackberry, kirsch, and pepper characteristics. Opulent and seamless, with layers of flavor, this classic effort can be drunk now and over the next 18 years." (10/02) Other than the "Dead Arm" Shiraz, the 'Ironstone Pressings" is one of the blockbuster wines produced from incredibly old vines and extremly low yields. The bouquet sings with black raspberry fruit that mingles with notes of white pepper, coffee and hints of mocha. With yields of 1/2 ton to the acre, the wine has amazing concentration and density, yet is wonderfuly balanced. Don't miss the wines from this terrific producer.
