1999 Nickel & Nickel "Sullenger Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1001048 92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Enormously complex, with currant jam, black cherry and nicely integrated mocha and vanilla flavors from toasty oak that are mellow and ripe, with lingering chocolate overtones. Supple, round tannins frame the concentrated finish, showing a trace of heat. (JL) Inner quote mark (10/2002)

90 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark This smells like Bordeaux, from the cassis and earth all the way to the foresty aromas that some might even call green. The palate is a smooth ride of currant, plum and bitter chocolate, all with a cool, herbal underbelly. (MS) Inner quote mark (5/2003)

K&L Notes

This historic vineyard is located in Oakville, directly north of Opus One, and east of the Robert Mondavi Winery and the famous To-Kalon vineyard. The property is named after Napa Valley pioneer John Crawford Sullenger, who, in 1865, purchased this property and adjoining parcels, amounting to a total of 150 acres. Sullenger later sold a portion of his land to Inglenook proprietor Gustav Niebaum, and to Hamden McIntyre, an architect who designed the buildings that later became home to Far Niente Winery. The 1999 was rated 92 points from The Wine Spectator!
