2022 Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
($29.95)
96 points
Decanter:
"Pommard, Wadenswil (50%) and a bit of Dijon, the youngest vines on the Maresh estate, are from 1997, as well as plantings from 1991, 83, and 70, all of it own-rooted. Earth and rose petals announce gorgeous aromatics. Winemaker Jim Maresh destems 100%. It sees 18-24 months in barrel. At $33.50, this may be the best deal in American wine. Earthen aromatics, pine bough, and blood orange spritz. The palate is fresh with blue and red bramble fruits, spicy clove and savoury herbaceousness. (CP)" (07/2024) 93 points
James Suckling:
"A lovely and charming nose of strawberries, raspberries, crushed stones, tea leaves and some mild spices. Its medium-bodied, silky and crunchy, with a purity of fruit throughout and a voluptuous, well-rounded texture toward the crunchy finish." (03/2024) 93 points
Wine Advocate:
"The 2022 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills offers very high quality at a modest price and has a pretty, high-toned personality. It's scented of strawberry and raspberry jam, bitter orange, lavender, rooibos tea and desiccated roses. The light-bodied palate's perfumed berry fruit is delivered in a silky texture, and fireworks of fresh acidity call you back for another sip. You could open this layered, fragrant, spicy Pinot Noir on any night of the week, for any occasion. (EB)" (07/2024) 91 points
Vinous:
"A deep magenta, the 2022 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is lifted and floral, with fruit verging more toward raspberry than strawberry, with dusty rose and hints of spice. It's sleek and racy, with supple textures and crisp wild berries cascading across a core of juicy acidity. This finishes long and staining yet remarkably fresh, leaving a lingering whisper of licorice and a gentle tension. (EG)" (01/2024) Ryan Woodhouse

September 17, 2024 As the 2022 harvest unfolded in Oregon I followed the Instagram feeds, spoke with winemakers, and read vintage reports taking note of phrases like "miracle vintage" that started popping up all over the place. The growing season started with a devastating frost, and unprecedented snow fall in some areas. Most growers reported 75% loss of the first shoots growing on the vines. Most vineyards bounced back and pushed up new growth, but now everything was 4-6 weeks behind schedule. Growers needed a great Summer and Autumn to salvage the disastrous start...and that is exactly what they got! By the time harvest started, the horrors of that April frost seemed a distant memory as pristine fruit made its way to wineries. Fast forward 18 months and I was very excited to see some of the first Pinot Noirs of the vintage come across my desk. The 2022 Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills bottling was one of the first examples I tasted. Now, keep in mind I had very high expectations for the vintage because of the aforementioned hype. Also, Arterberry was already one of my producers in the region raising my hopes even higher. Despite that, I was still absolutely flabbergasted by how good it was! The purity of fruit, the sheer grace and brilliance of the texture. The layers and depth of flavor on the palate whilst remaining ethereal and lifted. Perfect ripeness, silken texture, piquant acidity, sultry savory, earthy tones. A wine you can quaff without care for its easygoing approachability Kerry Kirkham

September 17, 2024 I dont know whats more mesmerizing about the 2022 Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills Pinot Noir the limpid garnet color glistening in the glass, or the glorious aromas of fresh cherries and dried rose petals that swirl above it. In an early morning tasting I was struck dumb at first, simply scrawling wow and LOVE in my notes. This elegant Burgundian-styled elixir is so vibrant, with impeccable clarity and balance. Crunchy fresh summer cherries, raspberry, wild strawberries, soft hints of rose, and Earl Grey tea with bergamot coming to the fore. The lingering finish is a sensual refrain that brings me right back to wow and LOVE. Carlo Delgado

September 14, 2024 Aromas of wild strawberries, fresh pomegranates, rose petals, red apple skins, hibiscus juice, and dried spices. On the palate, crunchy red berries, oolong tea, and a nice touch of saline. Light with a slight grip on the finish. Arterberry Maresh has always been one of my favorite producers from Willamette Valley. They have a distinctive style, that is always refreshing. An excellent vintage, well known producer, at this price? You can't go wrong! Scott Beckerley

September 12, 2024 This black raspberry, violet, and forest scented release is very pretty and just plain fun to smell. It has an upper palate tartness with more raspberry flavors followed by crunchy cranberry and orange peel. Very nice acidity that helps the soft tannins zip along and finish brightly. An extremely nice effort from Arterberry Maresh and a most memorable (and delicious!) one. Alexandre Tweedie

September 11, 2024 From the Old Vine Masters at Arterberry Maresh, the '22 Dundee Hills bottling is singing a delicately beautiful song today. The aromatic dance starts with an earthy symphony of fresh tilled soil, bramble bush leaves and clove incense, which are carried on the soft breeze of an Oregon summer's evening. The palate is lined with gentle touches of small forest berries, which shine brightly alongside the lengthy spice and taught acidity. Over the past four decades, Arterberry Maresh have helped Oregon establish its world renown for Pinot Noir through dedication to skill and craftsmanship, and this skill and care is shown clearly through every bottling, vintage after vintage! |
