Grand Napa has quickly become a go-to staple in our Insider's line-up, with several consecutive vintages reaching sell-out status in no time flat. We've kept a strong direct relationship with the winery to keep bringing you these crowd-pleasing Napa beauties at super-affordable prices. Decanter:
"Winemaker Stéphane Vivier matures this Cabernet in 50% new French oak for 22 months. Classic aromas of blackberry, graphite and sweet oak all come together on this medium- to full-bodied red with crisp acidity, and burly tannins, finishing with sweet herbs and crushed stones. (JC)" (06/2022) 92 points
James Suckling:
"Raspberries, currants, licorice, chocolate orange and peppercorns on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, velvety tannins. Creamy, plush and velvety with a chocolatey finish." (11/2021) Wine Advocate:
"Aged 22 months in 50% new French oak, there are a substantial 1500 cases of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Scents of cedar, mocha, cassis and loam appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, open-knit and even slightly coarse in feel but decently concentrated and clean. (JC)" (03/2023) Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is solid, offering both red and black fruits as well as subtle tobacco, spice, and leathery notes. Its medium to full-bodied on the palate, has an elegant, simple mouthfeel, and a good finish." (05/2022) Ryan Woodhouse

September 12, 2023At this point the Grand Napa wines need no introduction. These are perennial favorites amongst customers and staff at K&L. The winery is based just off HWY 29 in Rutherford with their Stone Crib Estate Vineyard. Neighbors close by include: Inglenook, Morisoli, Staglin and Bella Oaks...pretty solid company! They also source fruit for top quality sources on Diamond Mountain, Spring Mountain and Atlas Peak. The wines are consistently delicious and made in a style that is rich and powerful but with admirable restraint and varietal character. The 2019 Reserve is a barrel selection that's a cut above their regular Napa Valley bottling. Winemaker Stephane Vivier (formerly Hyde de Villiane and currently Long Meadow Ranch) selects barrels that are particularly expressive of the vintage with refined structure and purity of fruit. The 2019 Reserve is pure crushed cassis, elderberry, split cedar, cigar box, warm earth, and graphite. Medium to full bodied with some dark chocolate tones and leather rounding our the fruit driven front palate. Very classic Napa Cab aromas and flavors with a slight more old school tilt which I very much enjoy. With a production of just a few hundred cases, we work winery direct to take last of vintage parcels and the very best possible pricing so long as we promise not to publish the pricing visibly online as it's WAY below the regular retail pricing! So, Insider's Advantage members take a look at this stunner before it's gone! |
