2013 Silver Oak Napa - A Napa Icon in a Legendary Vintage - 02/18/2018 - Cabernet Sauvignon (domestic)

Silver Oak Napa Cab continues to be a category-defining, benchmark wine. Its distinctive profile and unparalleled quality has drawn a large and devoted following since the winery’s founding in 1972. The 2013 vintage in Napa has been called by many the best in a lifetime. So, it should come as little surprise that Silver Oak managed to deliver one of their most impressive releases in their long history. True to form, it displays its distinctive profile with dark penetrating fruit tones that are accompanied by enticing accents of lavender, dill, and subtle spice. Collectors of Silver Oak are not going to want to miss this superlative rendition. With excellent structure and rounded tannins, it’ll be a great candidate to cellar to a decade or more, but given how beautifully it is drinking now, it’ll be hard to resist popping the cork. With its iconic status, Silver Oak is the perfect wine for dinner parties or gift giving, so we recommend stocking up. We’ve found it’s great to have a bottle on hand for whenever the occasion arises. Given the demand for other top 2013 Napa bottlings, we expect our allocation to move quickly.

2013 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($114.95)

Winery notes: "Our 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby in color and entices you with a nose of raspberry, cassis and loose pipe tobacco. This full-bodied wine has an assertively silky structure and is notably spicy on the palate. Flavors of sage and blackberry mark the wine’s entry. The strong acidity in the mid-palate is followed by a lingering finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2038. Our 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It was blended in early 2014 and aged for 24 months in 85% new American oak and 15% one-used American oak barrels from our Missouri cooperage, The Oak. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows all components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. It was then aged for an additional 20 months in bottle before being released in February of 2018."

A Napa icon in fine form. Everything people have come to know Silver Oak for is on full display with their 2013 Napa Cab release. Big, deep fruit (blackcurrant, cassis, plum) loamy earth, polished toasty oak, ripe, fine tannins, and beautiful length. A rich style but not over the top; the oak profile is classic Silver Oak but not distracting from the quality of fruit from this fine vintage. The legend continues.

Silver Oak consistently creates Cabernet of singular distinction, and the robust 2013 Napa Valley is a standout. Signature aromas of toasted American Oak, dill, grilled plum, subtly sweet tobacco, and earthy cocoa bean open to a plush, broad palate that manages to show elegant restraint and balance. Subtle dark fruit essences of cassis and black cherry are enveloped in fine, dusty tannins and graphite minerality, displaying a finesse and power that are hallmarks of the style.
