Not To Be Missed 97-Point Cali Cabernet for Under $50 - 01/29/2018 - Cabernet Sauvignon (domestic)

For those who love a full-throttle style of Cab that’s akin to Caymus, we’ve tracked down a bottling from Paso Robles that your are sure to love. Massively endowed, the blockbuster 2015 Austin Hope Cab is amazing bottle of juice the puts ripe, fleshy fruit right are the forefront. That being said, there’s enough tannin, structure, and secondary flavors and tones to keep it from being a simple fruit-bomb. While we’ve been turning to Paso Robles for world-class Zins and Syrahs, over the past several vintages we’ve found many terrific Cabs that stand shoulder to shoulder with the best out of Napa and Sonoma.

Loaded with explosive flavors of cassis, plum, espresso, mocha, mint, and blueberry pie, it sails across the palate thanks a plush approach and supple, sweet tannins. This is the kind of Cab that it excellent to sip on its own, but also will pair quite nicely an array of boldly favored dishes. If you have a dinner party coming up and want to impress your friends, this 2015 is sure to do the trick.

2015 Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon ($49.99)

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vintner Austin Hope, whose family is intertwined in the rise of Paso Robles, spent years working to release a wine of this caliber. Dark and thick in the glass, aromas of black currant and blueberry meet with roasted coffee, chocolate syrup and baked plum on the wondrous nose. The palate is soft and extremely expressive, with blueberry, black pepper, firm midpalate tannins and a finish thats redolent of cappuccino candies. (MK)" (03/2018)

K&L Notes: Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon stems from a driving fascination with the various terroirs of Paso Robles. It also tells the story of the Hope family’s long history in the region and how their pride and knowledge can be brought to life in a bottle of wine. Winery note: "Deep ruby in color, the 2015 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses intense fragrances of black currants, ripe black cherries and blackberries with subtle notes of violets, mocha and dried spices. It’s a big, powerful, modern-styled wine with velvety tannins and heaps of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, while nuances of cedar, clove and vanilla bean round out the long, smooth finish. It’s full bodied, rich and balanced by fresh acidity with a firm, polished tannin structure."

Big, robust, jammy and fruit forward. If you love Cab that matches Robert Parker's palate, this may be the wine for you. From the makers of Troublemaker, here's another wine you can definitely get into trouble with, as it is very easy drinking and approachable. Paso Robles is proving once again that it's an American Viticulture Area that stands on it own.

Cabernet drinkers looking for an intensely rich, decadent, and seductive Cabernet will love this wine! It is loaded with flavors of espresso bean, vanilla, blackberry jam and plums. The finish is velvety with sweet flavors of raisins and chocolate that linger. This is very much made in a style similar to Caymus Cabernet. I would say this wine even takes that style a step further. Lots of wine here for under $50!
