2013 Giovanni Manzone "Gramolere" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($49.99)

At 13,000 bottles made per year, production numbers are more than double the other Barolos in his portfolio, so this wine is reasonably easy to locate as a result. The 2013 Barolo Gramolere is an articulate and exuberant expression of contemporary Nebbiolo. It sees a 40-day maceration period for extra color and structure, plus 30 months aging in both botte grande and tonneaux. The flavors are bright and finely cut in this super attractive, mid-weight Barolo from Manzone. This is an especially refined style for Gramolere. 2013 Giovanni Manzone "Bricat" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($54.99)

95 points Vinous: "Dark cherry, plum, lavender, mint, wild herbs and smoke infuse the 2013 Barolo Bricat. Dark, powerful and brooding, but also very much medium-bodied in structure, the 2013 is wonderfully complete and full of allure. There is plenty of tannin, but the wine is impeccably balanced from start to finish. The darker and more muscular side of Gramolere comes through very nicely. There is so much to like, but the 2013 also shuts down quickly in the glass, which suggests it is likely to require a good few years in bottle to fully come together. (AG)" (10/2017)

The 2013 has a bit more depth and mid-palate pliancy than the 2012 tasted alongside it. I would prefer to drink this stylish, mid-weight Barolo over the near and medium term.
