Now In-Stock: WA95+ Sub-$30 “Breakthrough Wine” from a Tuscan Icon - 12/06/2017 - Italy

Now in stock and with its highest rating ever from the Wine Advocate is the95+ Point 2013 "Poggio Valente" Riserva. Coming from one of Tuscany’s hottest producers (Le Pupille of Saffredi fame) and a superlative Tuscan vintage, it is made all the more amazing by its sub-$30 price tag. This is the the ideal combination of quality and price that we spend long hours (and many miles) searching for. While distinctly Tuscan in its profile, this 2013 will appeal to a very broad audience being so fresh, bright, and effusive. This is the kind of bottle wine geeks can go crazy for while at the same time is accessible enough that even the casual drinker will be impressed. Priced so attractively and with such stellar reviews, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Change has been afoot at this estate and the 2013 "Poggio Valente" Riserva marks a distinct departure from previous vintages. Sourced from a historic vineyard, the goal was to train focus on the natural structure and power inherent in the grapes. As the critical consensus shows, this goal was achieved with resounding success. This is Sangiovese the way it is supposed to be - offering that ideal balance between power and nuance and all the while remaining true to its place of origin. We’ve long been fans of proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti’s wines, but with shift in stylistic direction that adoration has grown even stronger. The future looks very bright for Fattoria Le Pupille and for proof one need look no further than the 2013 Fattoria Le Pupille “Poggio Valente”.

2013 Fattoria Le Pupille "Poggio Valente" Morellino di Scansano Riserva ($29.99)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "95+: The 2013 Morellino di Scansano Riserva Poggio Valente is a breakthrough wine for Fattoria le Pupille and its talented winemaking team. This is a complete and balanced expression that shows its best side to all the senses: its appearance is richly saturated and bright; the bouquet is intense and complex; and the mouthfeel shows elegance and power. In all, this wine tastes and feels much younger than it really is and I have high hopes for its future aging ability. It shows a great sense of inner energy and liveliness that makes it a pleasure to drink in the near term as well. Soft flavors of black cherry, spice and grilled herb wrap thickly over the palate. (ML)" (01/2017)

94 points James Suckling: "A fascinating pure Sangiovese with gorgeous blackberry and fresh mushroom character. Hints of spices. Full body yet bright and refined with a velvety tannin structure. Lovely complexity and savory character." (11/2016)

92 points Vinous: "Le Pupille's 2013 Poggio Valente Riserva represents a clear stylistic departure from the past. Powerful, expressive and also dense, the 2013 nevertheless presents a super-classic interpretation of structure. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. This is the second vintage aged in 500-600L barrels, a choice that has given the Poggio Valente a much more classic feel. The 2013 has only recently been bottled, but it is pretty impressive just the same. I can't wait to see how it ages. (AG)" (11/2016)
