2013 Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo County Chardonnay
The 2013 Chardonnay is another fabulous wine for the money. This racy, impeccably balanced Chardonnay delivers the goods, and then some. Pear, spice and melon notes flesh out in a delicious, hugely attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years. Brian Talley's Bishop's Peak label is full of affordable, everyday wines that mostly over deliver next to their very reasonable price points. Talley Vineyards’ bargain brand offers light lemon and chalk aromas before delivering a palate where brisk acidity is the primary player. White rocks, apple, lime and honeysuckle flavors linger in the wings.
Made by Talley Vineyards, Bishop's Peak is a consistently excellent value in Central Coast Chardonnay. The 2013 comes mainly (74%) from estate-owned Oliver's Vineyard in the Edna Valley, adjacent to the Arroyo Grande Valley but with more "extreme" growing conditions, perfect for making crisp Chardonnay with apple and citrus on the palate. Unlike the 2012, this vintage was also sourced (26%) from the Rincon Vineyard. Great weather from start to finish, despite the beginning of the drought, made a bumper crop of nicely balanced Chardonnay grapes in 2013. Winery's note: "The 2013 Bishop’s Peak chardonnay has an intense aroma of green apple and lemon zest. The palate features refreshing citrus flavors with mineral notes and a clean bright finish. This crisp chardonnay makes a nice aperitif and pairs well with light seafood dishes, especially shellfish."
