2012 Collestefano Rosato "Rosa di Elena" (Previously $16)

SKU #1132667

ColleStefano is situated in a hilly belt in the hinterland of the Marches, 420 meters above sea-level. This narrow land is watered by the Esino river and bound on the east and west by the mountain range of the Appennini Umbro-Marchigiani. Not affected by the mitigating influence of the Adriatic Sea, the region is characterized by a cool, dry climate with a dramatic day/night temperature range. This is ideal for the growing of Verdicchio di Matelica, which has been cultivated in this district since ancient times and characteristically ripens late in the season. Collestefano's vineyards are organically farmed. Fabio Marchionni specializes in Verdicchio and makes no red wine, yet he couldn't pass up the opportunity to rent this tiny parcel of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon on a very steep slope and make this delightful wine rosato (rosť). Brief skin contact gives just a kiss of color to this, fresh, balanced and lively rosť.

Move over Provence, the Rosati of Italia just keep getting better and better. This particular wine is just lovely (no other word comes to mind). Actually, that's not true. I find this wine "demure". That's all I can say, a lovely and demure little rosato, and that's saying quite a bit my friends. We don't get much of this wine (they don't produce that much)so delay not as this wine always sells out in a hurry. Cheers! CM

I always forget that my favorite verdicchio producer makes a tiny quantity of rosato. This has a paler pink hue, fresh red fruit flavors and a good amount of cut. Bright, dry, with just enough fruit. Very good.

Showing a magnificent clear salmon pink hue, this rosato expresses bright, ocean-saline aromas, followed by scents of watermelon peel and crisp, starchy home-grown apples. Fresh and full of minerals, yet delicate with a hint of strawberry and no tartness.
