2012 Zudugarai "Amats" Getariako Txakolina

SKU #1125249

Amats is both the brand name of the txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Zuri grapes, this is classic Txakoli: zippy, crisp, tart green apple flavors are enlivened by a lovely sparkle from the CO2 retained in tank during fermentation. Try this refreshing, vibrant, low in alcohol white wine with a wide range of foods - from obvious choices such as seafood (grilled sardines or cured anchovies would be a few of my favorites) to more substantial fare. Of course, I would not argue with this wine being serve as an aperitive as well! (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)

HELLO, DELICIOUS! It's official- I'm a Txakoli drinker. Hands down. No contest. This is the wine that sold me. Thank you, Joe! Apple, citrus, mineral with a cheesy saline quality that is mouth-watering and makes me reach for more. And more. And more. Racy acidity and super low alcohol at 10.5%! Get thee some cured meats, olives and Manchego cheese and go to town! You will not be sorry!

I've consumed enough of this wine already, it's high time to write a review. How awesome is it that we have not just one but two Direct Import Txakolis? (this and its delicious rose counterpart) From a very cool site, the 2012 Amats is a perfect example of Txakoli - very dry, crisp, and with razor-like acidity. It's zippy and fresh, with tangy green apple and citrus aromas and flavors accented by saline notes and hints of green herbs, not to mention incredible mineral drive from start to finish. So refreshing and easy to drink - excellent with fresh oysters or other fruits of the sea. I love the naturally low alcohol, too!

Do you love unoaked, dry white wines? This is textbook, deliciously crisp, slightly fizzy, bone dry txakoli! One of my favorite wines to drink in summer, I have in the past always been happy to pay the piper for these delicious, mineral, yet ultimately uncomplicated and refreshing whites. Now that we import this one directly though, I think I've found a new go to summer white (though I'm sure I'll be drinking this in the winter as well, with oysters, dungeness crab, pan fried trout...). A by the case purchase for me and probably for staff as well; buy some before we drink it all.

This succulent wine made a big impression on me when I tasted it today. Something this refreshing, clean and easy to drink seems like it should come with a warning label that reads: "Caution this wine is easy to get carried away with"! I can imagine pairing it with tapas, or just with a warm summer day. It is fantastic and a great deal!
