 The Syncline 2010 Subduction Red--their largest bottling--represents a geologically and geographically diverse range of vineyards and the following varieties: Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache, and smaller amounts of Cinsault, Counoise, and Carignan (of which, yes, there is some, at Alder Ridge in the Horse Heaven Hills). Bright red raspberry tinged with bay and sage and allied to red meat juiciness takes on increasingly smoky, piquantly fruit pit, as well as stony notes as it heads into a long, quite fascinating finish of infectious juiciness and refreshment. Firm and lean in feel, this is apt to loosen-up and become even more expressive in another year or so, which is amazing considering what terrific value it represents now.  (12/ 2012)

 (31% mourvedre, 25% syrah, 21% grenache, 12% cinsault, 7% carignan and 4% counoise): Good deep red. Enticing aromas of raspberry, currant, garrigue, black olive and violet, Sweet, sappy and nicely dense, with excellent peppery lift to the very ripe flavors of currant, black cherry, herbs, licorice and black olive. Finishes juicy and very long, with slightly drying tannins and excellent peppery lift.  (12/ 2012)

- Washington has become one of the most important wine producing states in the United States, and development continues to grow rapidly. In 1969, when California was exploding as a wine producer, Washington had only two wineries, but by 2000 that number had passed 100. Most of Washington's grape crop goes to uses other than wine. Merlot and Chardonnay have been the most successful in Washington. It's interesting to note that Washington's prime wine regions are located at 46° north, along the same latitude as the legendary French wine districts of Bordeaux and Burgundy. During the summer, Washington averages more than two hours more sunlight each day compared to California.
