2011 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival)
This is a crisp-textured wine, with a complex structure of rich, dense fruits, spice and wood. The wine is only just coming together, promising many years of aging ahead.
A very flattering style, with a good range of fresh-cut pineapple, white peach, golden raisin and creamed pear notes that all glide through the lush, inviting finish.
Quite phenolic with lemon peel and spice character. Full body, with medium sweetness and a spicy finish. Concentrated Sauternes.

Cropped at just 8 hectoliters per hectare (due to hail) from September 15 until October 14, the 2011 La Tour Blanche is a blend of 84% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscadelle. It has a well-defined nose of white peach and almond. Even if it is missing some of the intensity of its peers, through tasting of individual lots, I believe that the bouquet will evolve by time of the final assemblage. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine balance. It has an attractive core of ripe, botrytized fruit and a linear, focused finish that dare not put a foot wrong, remaining tight and precise with a daring touch of lemongrass and lemon thyme on the aftertaste. Drink 2014-2030.

(84% semillon, 12% sauvignon blanc and 4% muscadelle; 3.78 pH; 5.7 g/l total acidity; 135 g/l residual sugar): Very light, bright yellow with gold highlights. Vibrant aromas of white peach and kiwi complicated by marzipan and green papaya. Then spicier on the palate, with richer flavors of peppery apricot and peach jelly joined by enticing mineral tones on the long finish. This is a lighter-styled La Tour Blanche (the color tells you so from the start) made from very low yield of 9 hectoliters per hectare, as this estate was heavily hit by the April hail.
Concentrated lemon purity with a touch of apricot and lots of spiciness. Clean and long and bright and lovely zesty finish. Drink 2018-2030. (17.5/20 points)
* Plenty of rich botrytis fruit flavors with pineapple and honey aromas. Very thick and full-bodied. Coconut and white flowers, also. One of the heavier styles of 2011.
